It has been a while since a Disney movie has got me teary eyed and Coco did that to me.   It was such an amazing film with vibrant colors, amazing music, but most of all an unforgettable story-line.  Twelve-year-old Miguel  wants to follow his passion and  become a musician like his hero, the late Ernesto de la Cruz. Unfortunately, music has been banned by the boy’s family since the child’s great grandfather ran off to pursue his own musical dreams.   Miguel's family instead wants him to follow in the family footsteps of making and repairing shoes.

During the annual Dia de Muertos festival, Miguel is  accidentally transported to the Land of the Dead, where he gets to meet the spirits of departed family members, as well as de la Cruz himself.  Along the way Miguel learns the true importance of  family. While he has a desire to return home to his own family, he doesn't want to lose focus and forget those family members his family has lost over the years.   A great message throughout this film is that family always come first!

In honor of this movie release, why not have a Coco themed party!  First why not make some skull garland.   I took colored tissue paper (four sheets at a time) and placed a skull template on top of it.  Then I did another four skulls.  Next up, you take a long piece of masking tape, I placed the top of each skull on the edge, once they all were in place, just fold over the tape.

 A fun and easy decoration for the table is Coco themed lanterns.   I took plastic cups and busted out the permanent markers and got creative.  You really can't go wrong, just make a fun designed skull.  Once it is done, place a battery operated tea light under it and instant candle!

  Craft idea!   I used a clearance set of foam skull necklaces I had left over from Halloween.  I picked up bejeweled stickers for about $1 each at a couple different stores.  The kit included string and foam stickers for eyes and nose. 
 

 The kids had a blast making their own skull necklaces.  I am thankful the bejeweled stickers were only a $1 each, as it seemed my floor got jeweled too!  I was surprised at how well they turned out and the creativity each child showed!

Same Kind of Different as Me is a faith-based drama based on the true story of a wealthy family who befriends a homeless man. Debbie Hall has a dream that she would meet a wise man on a road, and that he would change her life.  When she encounters a homeless man who is frequent quest at a shelter she volunteers at she is convinced he is the man that would be the change.  The Halls invite this man into their lives and learn more about forgiveness and spirituality.  This movie also discusses  the love of God and how important families are.  It is a great family film!
