We watched Dark Tower in honor of the release of Movies Anywhere. I can't tell you how excited I am about this app. We have Kindles, an iPad, smart TV and a Roku stick, but in the past we weren't able to watch all our movies in one place. The kids were limited to the movies we owned on Amazon to watch on their Kindles, and iTunes only ever worked on iProducts. Well now we can watch our movie collection anywhere and on any device.
The movie The Dark Tower is based on the best-selling book series by highly-acclaimed
author Stephen King. The last Gunslinger, Roland (Idris Elba), has been
locked in an eternal battle with the Man in Black (Matthew
McConaughey), determined to prevent him from toppling the Dark Tower,
which holds the universe together. With the fate of the worlds at stake,
good and evil will collide in the epic battle as only Roland can defend
the Tower from the Man in Black.
I don't normally do Stephen King movies as they are too scary for my liking, but my husband convinced me that he saw preview for this movie and it looked amazing. It was not as scary as I thought, it was actually rated PG-13, so the kids could of watched it as well. The Dark Tower is a tower that stands against the darkness that threatens to invade the universe. As long as the tower stands, the world is safe. The mind of a child is said to hold the power to destroy the tower, thus destroying the universe. In order for darkness to overtake the world, the Man in Black steals children and force them to emit their "shine" to strike the tower.
The story focuses on Jake
Chambers a boy whose dreams reveal visions of the tower, the Man in Black and the Gunslinger. Everyone around him thinks he is crazy, but when the Man in Black wants Jake or his "shine", he must help the last gunslinger Roland defeat the Man in Black. This story will keep you on the edge of your seats. I am not familiar with the books this movie is based on, but I loved the movie! I am glad I didn't chicken out and went with my husband's suggestion!
When planning a movie night, you must have the best food. So since we were staying in, it was a no brainer to make our own pizza and popcorn! Homemade pizza is a family favorite in this house. You just follow the directions on the dough packet mix, add sauce and your favorite toppings. As for popcorn, we were turned onto Kernal Seasons a while back. The adorable popcorn containers are from the Target Dollar Spot. This way the family can each make their own flavored popcorn int their own containers!
Not only did we enjoy watching this film and having a great spread of snacks and food for the viewing of this film, but I also came up with a fun movie themed craft! DIY Candle Image Transfer!
The Dark Tower is available in the Movies Anywhere app. Now that I concurred one Stephen King movie, maybe I will try some more in the Movies Anywhere app!
