The Originals started their story line on The Vampire Diaries, they are the first in the long line of vampires. A little backstory, their mother (a witch) turned her children and spouse in order to protect them. In doing so, she created the first vampire clan and this clan can not be killed in the same ways normal vampires can! They are the most powerful and most vampires fear them, loathe them and know their place around them.
The main "Original" is Klaus, he is ruthless! He is brutal and will stop at nothing or let anyone get in the way of his agenda. He is now a father and that even puts him on high alert, he will not stop protecting his daughter (Hope) and keeping her safe. Baby Hope is a Hybrid and inherited her werewolf gene from both of her parents while her vampire and witch legacy came from her father who is the first Vampire-Werewolf Hybrid and the son of the Original Witch. Since Hope comes from such greatness, she is sought after often and must be protected!
This season also brought back "deceased" members of the family. So of course the introduction of family adds to the dynamics. Getting "reborn" is not easy and some of these members cause a lot of conflicts.
