I was so excited about these new lunchmeats, I had to try one out in a recipe! A great hot sandwich is a Monte Cristo! A Monte Cristo is a fried ham and cheese sandwich, a variation of the French croque-monsieur. Well I am not one to deep fry the sandwich, so instead I opted for a French Toasted Ham/Cheese Sandwich version.
This recipe makes 2 sandwiches and is kid approved in my house!
- 4 slices of bread (I used wheat)
- 2 eggs
- 2 tablespoons of butter spread
- 2 slices of American cheese singles
- 6 slices of Hillshire Farm Naturals Honey Roasted Ham or Black Forest Ham
- 1 teaspoon of powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons of raspberry preserves
- Turn your electric griddle to 350 degrees and allow it to heat up. Add about 2 tablespoons of butter spread It will dissolve while it is heating up. This will help the sandwiches from not sticking.
- Whisk together 2 eggs in a bowl and deep each side of the bread in the egg.
- Place the dipped bread on the electric griddle and brown up both sides. (Just like you are making French toast).
- Next add the ham and cheese and flip the sandwich a couple times until the cheese has melted making the sandwich stick together.
You can purchase Naturals™ lunchmeat at any Wal-Mart or find a local store using the Hillshire product locator (Naturals™ are found under thin-sliced lunchmeat).
