WHAT IF YOU WEREN’T ABLE TO RUN, JUMP OR PLAY
BECAUSE YOU WERE A GIRL?
BECAUSE YOU WERE A GIRL?
Activyst Announces the Launch of the Newest Functional Athletic Bag Line
that Gives Back to Girls
that Gives Back to Girls
Manhattan
Beach, CA – Local bag designer, Activyst, has a dual mission of
providing great fashion to the active
woman in order to help girls in developing countries play sports. It is
the company’s belief that, “stronger girls make a stronger world.”
There are a few simple facts that are the driving force to the company’s
launch.
- 1 in 3 females worldwide have been physically or sexually abused, with women in developing countries more heavily affected (Source: Women’s Sports Foundation 2013; SportandDev.org 2013).
- Females make up ¾ of teen HIV cases. Breast and other cancers, heart disease, and other chronic diseases are leading causes of death among females worldwide (Source: Women’s Sports Foundation 2013; SportandDev.org 2013).
- Females represent 70% of the world’s poor and 1% of the world’s wealth (Source: Global Poverty Project 2013; World Bank 2011).
- Less than half a cent of every development dollar goes to programs for girls (Source: Women’s Sports Foundation 2013; SportandDev.org 2013).
Activyst
founders, Katie Rock, Blair Warner, and Leigh Orne are ready to put a
stop to these awful truths. They
quickly realized that a girl who plays sports is less likely to get
pregnant, stay in an abusive relationship, suffer depression or use
drugs. As a result these active women become a more productive part of
society by being stronger leaders and reaching higher
levels of education (Source: Women’s Sports Foundation 2013;
SportandDev.org 2013).
Activyst is excited to announce the launch of their athletic bag for the active woman. The line comes in three
pieces, The Active Bag ($145); The Out and about Tote ($85); and The Freshen Up
Cosmetic Bag ($40). The Active Bag
has multiple compartments for shoes, a yoga mat, water bottle, clothes,
electronics and personal items. The Activyst campaign launched on
Indiegogo on Friday, March 15th and in just 68 hours
they reached and surpassed their first milestone of $25,000 to fund its
first soccer field in Nicaragua. Part of the company’s revenue will go
towards helping Soccer Without Borders to build a field and support
their existing community center.
Activyst’s
job does not stop there. Activyst founder, Katie Rock, feels strongly
that there is a need for her
initiative and says, "What excites me about sports is that they are a
small and simple way to address the very complex issues that girls
around the world face. They really can be a catalyst for change in
girls' lives." They plan on continuing to raise money
to fund needs for various sports related non-profits around the world.
With the campaign concluding on April 20th, there is a real need to keep
pushing and saving girls around the world. Next stop… Uganda.
