Living in a locale
with four seasons can make it very tempting or even necessary to spend lots of
money year-round. For instance, that bathing suit purchased and worn in July
will have to be switched out for some long underwear come January, and no
matter how durable sandals are, a child cannot continue to wear them when the
snowy weather hits. So, even if you have to spend money every few months,
follow these tips to make it much less painful!
1. End of Season
Some items are available all-year and other things really only become available (and expensive) when retailers think people will be likely to buy them. Beach umbrellas will be at their most expensive in June, while Christmas lights and parkas will be at their most expensive in November. Instead of buying these items in their respective season, you can save a lot of money by taking advantage of end-of-season sales. Toward the end of a season, stores tend to put all of their items for that season at a discount, and will continue increasing that discount until everything has been sold. It may seem strange for someone to shop for a new bikini in September, but when this particular piece of swimwear can be purchased for 75% off of its original price, it’s a no brainer!
2. Outlet Stores
Outlet malls offer very comparable sales year-round. They have a variety of
different stores all located together, so it is possible to shop for a range of
different things in one outing. Outlet stores typically have stores for women's
and men's adult clothing, children's clothing, baby clothing, children's toys,
bed and bath, home furniture, home appliances, sporting goods, health and
beauty, shoes and jewelry. Outlet stores are also more likely to sell spring,
summer, fall and winter items all together. Using this method of shopping
requires a little bit of foresight and planning though. Some people do not like
to shop outside of the season and cannot fathom trying on and purchasing a
winter coat at an outlet store in July, but it can be very advantageous for
your wallet, especially because people who are willing to plan a little bit can
even stock up on items that are on sale, so they can be given as gifts in the
future. Shopping for birthdays and holidays in advance not only saves a lot of
money, it can also save time.
