Red Gold Culinary

Red Gold, which is a family-owned business that is based in Indiana. The company has been around since the 1940's and was focused on growing local in the Midwest (Michigan, Ohio, & Indiana), where true seasons impact the flavor of tomatoes. They don't just stop with canned tomatoes, they also have ketchup, tomato juice, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, stewed tomatoes, chili beans, and so much more.

They recently came out with a  new premium line with unique blends -- such as Sliced Tomatoes and Zucchini with Onions, Celery and Bell Peppers-- being sold exclusively at Meijer's in Columbus and only a few other markets.  The 28-ounce tomato cans are called Red Gold Culinary and consist of special cut tomatoes, select garden vegetables and old world spices. Other flavors include Italian Tomatoes with Garlic and Olive Oil; Chefs Cut Tomatoes with Basil in Tomato Puree; Hearty Chili Seasoned Diced Tomatoes with Onions in Tomato Juice; and Diced Tomatoes with Chipotle.  If you have a Meijers nearby you will want to check them out!  Heck Meijers even had some Mealbox and mPerks coupons for them recently too!

For example, the Tomatoes and Zucchini could be excellent as a chilled or warmed side dish, or adds flavor and dimension to favorite recipes or as a soup starter. Or, The Chili Seasoned Tomatoes have just the right amount of chili spices and onions in a tomato juice base as a chili starter.

Growing up in Michigan and now an Ohio girl, I am quiet familiar with the Red Gold brand. It is a brand I love and trust. It is quiet honestly the only brand of tomatoes I buy.

I decided to try my 2 cans of Red Gold Culinary in recipes I know and love and see who they tasted. I made a goulash. Simple but yummy on a cold day.

1 can of Red Gold Culinary Sliced Tomatoes and Zucchini with Onions ( I chopped mine some more, so the kids wouldn't have issues with the slices
1 can of Red Gold Tomato sauce
1/2 lb hamburger meat
Small pasta shells boiled and drained
Fresh garlic
Salt and pepper to taste


All combined into pot until warm!  The zucchini added extra flavor and an easy way to sneak in some more veggies into a meal!



I tried the other can of Red Gold Culinary in chili and it was just the right taste that I did not have to add any additional spices!
