Heart of Haiti Mother’s Day post

Do you have a special woman in your life that helped you? With Mother’s Day right around the corner, now is time to reflect on all those wonderful women, moms, grandmas, aunts, etc. who are there for us no matter what!

Growing up my Grandmother lived with us.  She moved in shortly after my Grandfather’s passing, but I was so young that it felt like Grandma was always living with us!  We did not have much money growing up, but we always seemed to make do on what we had.   Well my Grandmother and I had to share a bedroom, but as a young child I did not mind.  We would lie in bed together and she would tell me stories as I fell asleep.  We would snuggle, and sometimes she would let me wear her perfume and brush my hair with her beautiful brush.

It is those little memories that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.  Those memories of how my Grandmother was so nurturing and carrying as helped me to become the mother I am now today.  Although I do not share a room with my kids, I will snuggle with them, lie in their beds and tell them stories just like my grandma used to.  Brush my daughter’s hair with my brush, dab a little bit of perfume on her, etc.  Although she is no longer with us in this world, she is still with me in my heart and memories!

Through the sale of Heart of Haiti products, artisans are able to earn life-changing income for themselves, their families, and their communities.  This is the first sustainable income since the earthquake.  The initiative is enabling artisans to repair homes, pay school fees, and feed and clothe their families. The income also allows them to have access to better nutrition, improved education and healthcare.
